Tempusic: music in the terminal

Tell me about Tempusic.

Tempusic is a terminal-native, temporary music player. No ads, no apps, no account: find a track, fetch it, and listen offline without leaving the shell.

It's a full React app that renders to the terminal with Ink. There's a splash screen, a search view, and a small store that tracks the active view and terminal size, so the layout reflows when you resize the window.

How you use it

bash

# open the search UI
npm run dev
# start a download straight from a magnet link (quote it)
npm run dev -- "magnet:?xt=..."
# or open a .torrent file
npm run dev -- ./album.torrent
  • q or Ctrl+C quits, Esc goes back to the splash screen.
  • The CLI argument parser is unit tested with Vitest, and builds are bundled with tsup.
  • It's in active development, so expect it to change fast.
